Apartment By Royal Mile is a four star rated apartment housed within a Grade B listed building, ideally situated just off the Royal Mile in Edinburgh's medieval Old Town & approximately half way between Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace.  Waverley Train Station, airport bus stances & Princes Street - with its many shops and extensive gardens, are five minutes away and half a mile down the Royal Mile is the new Scottish Parliament & Dynamic Earth with Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Crags beyond, from which there are wonderful panoramic views of the city and beyond.  Many places of interest are within walking distance of the apartment, while others can be reached by excellent public transport links or via a tempting range of coach tours. 
The apartment Four Star grading is awarded annually by Visit Scotland and we have also been awarded a Green Tourism Business Scheme Silver Award

Situated on the fourth floor of this 250 year old listed building, the apartment has been refurbished to a high standard and offers comfortable, central, self-catering accommodation for two people in the bedroom, with the option of a larger than double sized, very comfortable sofa bed in the sitting room. 
The apartment is very well equipped, a recent addition to the facilities being wireless internet access for which
there is no charge.  The apartment is ideally situated for those embarking on family history research as it is within comfortable walking distance of New Register House, the Scottish Genealogy Society Library & Family History Centre, National Library and Central Library and having successfully completed Visit Scotland's Ancestral Tourism course, Janet is happy to offer advice and information regarding family history research.  Photograph at the top of the page was taken from the sitting room window of the apartment and shows Salisbury Crags towering above the buildings opposite.

The light and airy sitting room shown right has a classic marble mantlepiece and Morso 'living flame' gas stove giving the room an attractive focal point and extra warmth, the central heating radiator providing background heat.  Facilities include television set with
Freeview digital receiver, VCR,
DVD player, music centre and
payphone.  There are two sofas in the room one of which easily
converts into a larger than double sized & very comfortable bed.

The bedroom (left) contains a large pine wardrobe, a pretty pine
dressing chest and roomy bedside chests providing plenty of storage.
The bedroom is shown with twin beds, but these can be joined to form
one extra king size double.  Please let us know your preference.

The photograph on the left shows the smart and very well lit bathroom which has both bath and shower - the shower being a recently fitted electric Mira Sport - plus basin with light/shaver point.  Good quality bath & hand towels plus bath mat are supplied.


The photograph on the right, shows a corner of the bright, well organised,well equipped kitchen, which has fridge/freezer, washer/drier, dish-washer, full size gas hob and fan assisted electric oven and a multifunction microwave.  An iron and ironing board as well as  all crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils and linen are supplied.

General Information/Facilities.
Wireless Internet Access is available in the flat
The flat has both payphone and entryphone system.  Heating is by gas central heating,
with the added comfort of a 'living flame' Morso gas stove in the sitting room.
All gas, electricity, linen, towels, & taxes are included in rates. 
Access to the flat is by
a shared well lit stairway, there is no elevator to the flat.

Please note: Apartment by Royal Mile is strictly No Smoking
Regret: The apartment is unsuitable for pets.

For your safety all gas appliances are inspected annually by a Corgi registered plumber and
a Landlord's Gas Safety Certificate is held.

Car Parking
Most guests find there is no need for a car during their stay, as the apartment is ideally situated within walking distance of many places of interest while

others are within easy reach by public transport.  For those wishing to bring a car, parking in St. Mary's Street is available from18.30 in the evening until 8.00
 in the morning weekdays and all day Sunday.  There are four metred bays opposite the apartment where cars may be parked for up to four hours. 
The nearest car park is St. John's, five minutes walk from the apartment.  Daily ticket - £9.50

Shopping
Small/Corner Shops:     The nearest shop for essential basics such as bread & milk is across the road from the apartment. 
There are two slightly larger shops within two minutes' walk of the apartment, one of these having long trading hours.
Supermarkets/Foodhalls:There are three metro type supermarkets within ten minutes walk of the apartment, as are Marks &
Spencer & Jenners Food Halls.  There is a Sainsburys supermarket within easy reach by bus.  It is also possible
to place
advance internet grocery orders with Tesco, Waitrose, Asda or Sainsburys for delivery to the apartment.
Nearet Post Office:   St. Mary's Street.    Nearest Foreign Exchange:   Royal Bank of Scotland, North Bridge (3 minutes)
Nearest Pharmacy:Royal Mile/High Street (2 minutes)
 


Other Shopping:  The apartment is five minutes or so away from Princes Street, Princes Mall & St.James Shopping Centre/John Lewis. 
Specialist food shops stocking local produce include Mellis cheese shop in Victoria Street and Crombie's butcher & Real Foods whole food
shop in Broughton street.  Also within walking distance is Valvona and Croalla's famous deli and cafe.

Public Transport
There is public transport available on St. Mary's Street, nearby Cannongate & North Bridge.  For other destinations
there are buses from George IV Bridge (5minutes), Princes Street (5minutes) and Waverley Bridge (5minutes).
Waverley Train Station is five minutes walk from the apartment as are the Airport Bus Stances, Edinburgh Airport 
 being approximately six miles from the city centre.
